Giving Back Matters

“I believe that we all have a responsibility to give back. No one becomes successful without lots of hard work, support from others, and a little luck. Giving back creates a virtuous cycle that makes everyone more successful.” – Ron Conway

Pure Cycles is a pretty young company and has been built from the ground up in tandem with our community. We truly could not be who we are without the support and participation of our customers, shops, and partner organizations. One of the reasons that I love working at Pure Cycles is that an inherent part of the company’s ethos is giving back to this community. We are proud to support a few key organizations:

Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition: LACBC is a membership-based nonprofit organization that works to make all communities in LA County healthy, safe, and fun places to ride a bike through advocacy, education, and outreach. The organization was founded by local bike advocates in 1998. Today, they are working hard to improve the cycling infrastructure in the 88 cities in Los Angeles County so that all riders can safely navigate L.A. County streets. Join LACBC by clicking here.

PeopleForBikes: PeopleForBikes is a national organization that aims to make riding better for everyone. They collaborate with millions of individual riders, businesses, community leaders, and elected officials to unite people to create a powerful, united voice for bicycling and its benefits. Launched in Colorado in 1999 as Bikes Belong, an industry coalition of bicycle suppliers and retailers, PeopleForBikes has spent more than $30 million to make bicycling better. Get involved with PeopleForBikes here.

CicLAvia: CicLAvia is a 501(c)3 non-profit that catalyzes vibrant public spaces, active transportation and good health through car-free streets. CicLAvia is an open streets event that allows people from all around LA to connect with one another and enjoy neighbourhoods, closing streets off to cars and opening them to cyclists and pedestrians. CicLAvia has helped shape public policy and temporarily improve air quality by up to 20% after each event. We are at every CicLAvia event and would love to ride with you. Join us Sunday, Sept. 30th in DTLA.

Bicycle Product Suppliers Association: BPSA is an association of suppliers of bicycles, parts, accessories and services. Celebrating its 105th year, the BPSA helps raise the tide of everyone in the bike industry. The association leads industry initiatives in legal and governmental affairs and safety issues, is the leading resource for bicycle statistical data, and provides regular networking and educational forums for members. Pure Cycles has been a member of BPSA since the inception of our business. You can learn more about BPSA and what they do here.

The Pablove Foundation: The Pablove Foundation’s mission statement is “fighting childhood cancer with love.” Pablove achieves this by providing grants for underfunded pediatric cancer research, as well as supporting patients and their families through a variety of programs including Pablove Shutterbugs, which teaches photography as a creative outlet. Pablove has strong ties to the cycling community; this year marks the 10th anniversary of their Pablove Across America signature event.

As employees, we have each been encouraged to give back on a personal level, too. I have felt particularly drawn to Pablove’s mission and will be participating in the SF to LA Pablove Across America ride next month. This will be my most ambitious ride since I had a gnarly bike accident a while back, but the thought of helping these kids in some small way has kept me motivated to train and fundraise. I have also been using PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) as a mantra.

I have 1 month and $2500 to go to hit my goal. If you are interested in making a donation or just learning more, head over to:
